Transitioning Your Kitchen

By Tina McDermott, CNC, CPT

“Eating Healthy” start at home and is something you need to plan for and do every day to make it a new way of life.  It’s time for a change and to start a whole new way of living which begins in your kitchen.

It starts by getting rid of six ingredients that compromise your health.

REFINED SUGAR AND ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

Eating too much sugar destroys good bacteria in your gut, weakens the immune system, creates blood sugar imbalances, makes you crave sweets and gain weight.   Artificial sugars simply destroy your brain cells.

Trash It: Eliminate all the products containing sugars (sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, maltodextrin) and artificial sugars (Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet) Sucralose (Splenda) Acesulfame K (ACE K, Sunette) Saccharin (Sweet ‘N Low).

Stash It: Raw cane sugar, maple syrup, raw honey, molasses, stevia, monk fruit.

WHITE FLOUR

White flour is mostly made from wheat and breaks down into sugar in the body. It is also a major allergen causing reactions such as headaches, fatigue, irritability, nausea, diarrhea, celiac and Crohn’s disease.

Trash It: If it says wheat flour, toss it.

Stash It: Organic and sprouted whole grains.

HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OILS

These fats are one molecule away from plastic and have been implicated as a cause of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and sterility.

Trash It: Most packaged foods, read the labels and search for trans fats, hydrogenated fats.

Stash It: Real organic butter, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil.

CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES

Caffeine stimulates the adrenal glands making you feel exhausted, fatigued, gain weight, low blood pressure, dizziness and lightheadedness.

Trash It: Simply get rid of all caffeinated coffee and tea (and soft drinks, if you haven’t done so yet).

Stash It: Drink pure water, herbal teas or try a coffee substitute such as Teechino..

COMMERCIAL SALT

Table salt has been processed and is devoid of vital minerals and contains sodium chloride.  consumption of this salt may lead to high blood pressure, fluid retention, heart and kidney disease.

Trash It: all commercial salts and packaged foods with it.

Stash it: Use Celtic sea salt which contains over 80 balanced minerals from the sea which are essential for proper hydration, normalizes blood pressure, and enhances digestion.

Soy

The truth is it blocks protein digestion, depresses the thyroid, contains the highest amount of pesticides as 99% of it is genetically modified, blocks the absorption of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc. Soy decreases fertility and much more.  Trash it all.
