5 Simple Steps to Improving Your Digestion
Weight Loss begins with the digestive system which is where most of your immune system lives. Every day life is full of toxins from the food we eat, the air we breathe, the beverages we drink and especially the stress we tolerate! These toxins create a very sluggish digestive system which simply has a hard time processing, utilizing and disposing of the foods you feed yourself. The sad result of this is a slow metabolism, stored toxins and calories and, unfortunately, weight gain. Poor digestion can also result in fatigue, headaches, depression and lack of energy, which can indirectly lead to weight gain. Making a few changes in the way you eat and in your lifestyle can make a big difference in your digestion and your efforts to lose weight. Here are five simple steps!
Step 1
Get smaller plates and eat less. A simple way to improve your digestion is to reduce your portion size which reduces the amount of energy the digestive system has to produce to process the foods. This should also result in weight loss. A good rule of thumb is to limit portions of all of your foods to the size of your fist, and fill 3/4ths of your plate with vegetables.
Step 2
Eat more fiber-rich foods such as vegetables and especially dark leafy-green vegetables, fresh fruit and nuts and seeds. Fiber is the “grease” for your digestive system, and it helps the digestive mechanism operate smoothly. A lack of fiber can lead to constipation, bloating, gas and other problems.
Step 3
Move your mASS daily. Moving your body increases the efficiency of your circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems. At least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per day can help strengthen the muscles of your digestive system so you can digest food more efficiently and better eliminate waste. Regular exercise is, of course, one of the keys to any successful weight loss program.
Step 4
Practice yoga. Some yoga postures help increase the circulation of blood to the digestive system, which stimulates digestion, according to holistic health care website Herbal Cure India. Postures such as the cobra pose, downward facing dog, bow pose and side-angle pose all have beneficial effects on the digestive system. Yoga as a form of exercise is also a beneficial addition to any weight loss program.
Step 5
Drink Water. A major contributing factor to uncomfortable digestive system issues and weight gain is likely due to a condition of chronic unintentional dehydration. If you want to transform your body and your life then proper hydration is absolutely necessary and once corrected, your symptoms could disappear altogether. Drink ½ of your body weight in pure water daily and on an empty stomach.
